KAMPALA — The National Freedom Party (NFP) has called for the amendment of the Electoral Commission Act, to ensure ‘a more representative’ electoral body. Appearing before the legal and parliamentary affairs committee over the political parties’ bill yesterday, NFP chairman Joel Wakayima said the commission had exhibited much weakness in the past.

‘End war’
KAMPALA — Action party president Nelson Ocheger has requested the Government to end the northern Uganda insurgency to make the 2006 elections a success. Addressing journalists yesterday at Yovan hotel in Bakuli, Ocheger said the insecurity might halt the elections, as many voters have not received civic education on the transition to multi-partyism.

KAMPALA — Democracy means giving a chance to members to exercise their leadership skills within a party, Kibuku MP and DP diehard Rainer Kafire has said. He was yesterday talking to journalists at parliament about the need to give freedom to other party members to compete for the party’s top positions.
