NATIONAL Rally Championship (NRC) leader Riyaz Kurji will shoulder the burden of hitting the road first in this weekend’s Castrol-Mogas Independence rally.

But Kurji, who is seeking a maiden national championship, is not worried about opening the way.

“That’s not new to me. I will drive normally,” Kurji said while reccing the route in Jinja yesterday.

Defending champion Moses Lumala, in a Toyota Celica ST185 ‘Hungry Tiger’, will chase Kurji followed by Ponsiano Lwakataka.

UPDF flag-bearer WO1 Ismail Lule is fourth while Ronald Sebuguzi will be flagged off fifth.

The final rally that will determine this year’s champion has attracted a record 22 drivers.

Scrutineering of cars will be conducted tomorrow at Mogas Lubowa station ahead of flag off at Mogas Kikoni on Saturday.

The cars will then head for Jinja Agriculture Showground for a special stage followed by eight sections in Jinja, Kamuli and Iganga on Sunday.

The rally is sponsored by Castrol and Mogas.
