A BIG chunk of land belonging to Butabika Hospital has been leased out to ‘unknown people and fictitious investors’, the New Vision has learnt.

Area MP Freddie Ruhindi (Nakawa) said all land surrounding the hospital, save for a piece where the hospital premises are located, has been demarcated and allocated to developers.

“The land surrounding the hospital has been given out to various individuals. I wrote letters to relevant authorities but I have never received a reply on the matter,” Ruhindi complained.

Speaking to the press yesterday at Parliament, Ruhindi (below) asked the Government to clarify who the land was allocated to.

Barely a year ago, the ministries of health and water wanted to sell off the land to two unidentified investors but the Butabika administration petitioned Parlia-ment over the matter.

Parliament Speaker Edward Ssekandi referred the matter to the committee of social services for investigation. MPs argued that the land should remain the property of the hospital for health purposes.

“This matter became controversial, prompting Ssekandi to direct the committee to investigate and report back to the House but up to now no report has been submitted.

What I have found is that all the land, apart from the piece where the hospital is, has been leased out,” Ruhindi said.

A Parliament probe committee takes a maximum of three months to investigate the matter at its disposal and report back to the house for a pronouncement.

Ruhindi said it was wrong to lease out the land to the so-called investors before Parliament could pronounce itself on the controversial matter. He said premier Apolo Nsibambi should give a statement to the House on the issue.
