PADDY Bitama, the comedian from Amarula family, is finding out that jokes are better told on stage than played out practically in the real world.

Remember how he went to Namboole Stadium for presidential nominations, only to be turned away for failure to raise the obligatory sh8m and required signatures? Well, this came back to haunt him.

Last Sunday, beer-hungry fans eager to take advantage of the moment, waylaid him at Lido Beach as he made a grand entry.

Chanting, 'Our man, our president', they besieged him. Not wanting to let them down, Bitama played along and in typical showy style, told the over 30 fans to drink up for the beer was on him.

They gladly raided the bar. When they looked back from the counter with beer mugs in hand, ‘their man’ had fled for dear life! His excuse?

“If the incumbent hasn’t yet fulfiled all his pledges, who is Bitama to play angel?”
