SOROTI resident district commissioner Musa Ecweru has warned the Karimojong warriors against raiding the neighbouring districts.

“Gone are the days when Karimojong maliciously raided and killed people in Katakwi and other neighbouring districts with impunity,” Ecweru said.

He was briefing the new brigade operations and training officer, Lt. Col. Dick Olum, at the Amuria-based 307 Battalion headquarters on December 28.

Ecweru, who is also Arrow Group coordinator, said the group and the army would ensure security, law and order.

“If the Karimojong do not want to surrender their guns before crossing to Teso for pasture, they should stay at home,” he said.

Ecweru also castigated the 60 head of cattle compensation for any person killed by the raiders as set in the 1998 Magoro Accord.

The new Arrow Group commanders, Capt. Godfrey Kakoma (Kapelabyong county) and Lt. Justine Eilor (3rd battalion), attended.

The Government donated 151 uniforms and pairs of gumboots to the militia.

Meanwhile, Justin Moro reports that state minister for northern rehabilitation, Grace Akello recently called upon the Acholi leaders to help her office to cool down tribal sentiments in the region.

“The situation in Teso is returning to normal. I ask you to be cool-headed and help me for love, peace and goodwill to put down any burning fire, which Obote, Amin, Okello and now LRA left burning in northern Uganda,” she said.

Akello said this while opening a two-day peace mobilisation workshop for Acholi cultural and traditional chiefs at St. Monica Tailoring School in Gulu recently.

She hailed the army for the prevailing security.
