Unconfirmed whispers from the vine reveal that the high profile M-Net Face of Africa, an annual continent-wide talent search for a model that will represent Africa in New York, the world's fashion capital, could return this year.
The M-Net Face of Africa, produced by South African-based pay TV M-Net, was last held in 2001 in Windhoek, Namibia and was won by Senegalese model Ramatolouye Diallo.
The competition was suspended after Anglogold, the co-sponsors, pulled out and it became too costly for M-Net as the lone sponsor.
Face of Africa had earlier spawned African international supermodels Oluchi (Nigeria), Bevinda Mundenge (Namibia) and Nambulelo Mazibuku (South Africa).
The three all won modelling contracts worth over $150,000 with the Ford Modelling Agency but Bevinda and Nambulelo lost out due to weight gain.
