mourners at the burial of Manjeri Nanteza, an elderly born-again Christian recently forced a pastor of the Church on the Rock, Najjanankumbi, to apologise for insulting Catholics, reports Hillary Nsambu.

A big crowd of the mourners shouted down the pastor and forced him to apologise. They even stopped him from preaching by threatening to abandon the burial if he continued to unjustifiably attack other peoples’ religions.

The Pastor had started preaching by saying that some Christians “confuse” and lead their followers “blindly” by urging the dead in a Luganda song, which goes Fuba, Fuba e Gulu ye empeera...” literary meaning (strive, strive as heaven is the reward), which is popular with the Catholic Church.

Earlier, he had told the attentive mourners that Christians who sing that song are either confused or are deliberately confusing their followers because they shouldn’t urge the dead to strive for heaven as if that person could hear and heed to their call.

It was at this juncture that a cross-section of the mourners told him to stop otherwise they would boycott the burial. “Munsonyiwe, munsonyiwe, munsonyiwe nnyo, nsaba kusonyiyibwa. (I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I beg for forgiveness. I withdraw my words,” the pastor apologised.

Many VIPs, including the Makindye East MP, Yusuf Nsubuga Nsambu, attended.
