THE Government has secured over US$25m (sh50b) for equipping the over 124 health centres and units constructed all over the country.
Finance state minister in charge of planning Isaac Musumba yesterday told the government weekly press briefing in Kampala that the funding was secured under a counter-funding agreement between the Ugandan and Netherlands governments.
“The Netherlands government under the overseas programme will provide 50%, while the Government foots the rest. the programme is in the process of being operationalised,” he said.
Uganda Investment Authority boss Dr. Margaret Kigozi also addressed the press.
“Construction of these health centres is a big step. we will soon equip them with x-ray machines, scanners and drugs and personnel will also be recruited to man them,” he added.
Musumba said the government would not receive money from unsustainable sources, because that would tamper with the macro-economic stability. Ends
