AS part of a nation-wide operation to recover stolen vehicles, Lira Police have impounded 71 vehicles.
“We have impounded at least 71 vehicles suspected to have been acquired dubiously,” said the district Police commander, Geoffrey Aropet.
Aropet, who was addressing a press conference at his office on Thursday, said the operation was meant to identify vehicles acquired fraudulently and those without proper documents.
He said the operation was nation-wide.
The area traffic chief, Francis Okello, said 38 of the vehicles had already been verified.
He said 10 of them were believed to have been stolen ones.
Okello said their owners would be prosecuted for lack of proper documents.
He said the exercise would continue until all vehicles were inspected.
