THE Government is to spend sh1.7b for the re-gravelling of a security road linking the districts of Soroti, Katakwi and Lira.

Soroti executive engineer Charles Lakwonyero recently said work on the 80-kilometre Atirir-Orungo-Amuria-Obalanga-Alito Road would take eight months.

“Work has already started and from the pace of the events, it might be completed much earlier than expected,” Lakwonyero said.

Soroti resident district commissioner Musa Ecweru said the road would ease the movement of troops in the region.

Ecweru said President Yoweri Museveni asked the Government to make the construction of the road a priority.
