The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Jotham Tumwesigye, has directed magistrates, headmasters and sub-county chiefs to declare their assets or be sacked.

He said all leaders under the Leadership Code bracket must comply by filling forms declaring their wealth.

He said LC3 chairmen, headteachers, their deputies and magistrates must do it or face sacking.

He said the Leadership Code directed all workers in this bracket to declare their wealth within three months and that the period had elapsed.

“Many of these people who have never complied should be dismissed. If they do not have wealth, let them declare their poverty, but when I reach out on them they will be in trouble,” he said at a workshop held at Kalangala district headquarters recently.

He said there were 17,000 people who fall under this category. “People must know that the Leadership Code does not stop one from acquiring wealth but seeks to prevent the use of their office to enrich themselves. There should be no worry of acquiring wealth as long as its lawful,” he said. He warned that his office had devised means of investigating such matters.
