NEARLY 800 Watoto Villages Ministry orphans have cause to smile after uganda telecom donated sh8.8m to build new homes for them, reports Mary Karugaba.

Handing over the cheque to Pastor Franco Onaga of KPC missions on Friday, the firm’s chief commercial officer, Faisal Ijaz Khan, said the donation is part of the proceeds collected from the Leadership Lecture Series sponsored by uganda telecom this month.

He said the gesture is part of their strategy and commitment to reach out to the community.

“Ugandans need our help especially the orphans. This year we promise to be more aggressive than last year and make our presence felt,” he said.

He said uganda telecom is expanding its networks to offer better services countrywide.

Onago thanked the company and asked other corporate bodies to emulate uganda telecom and help ease the plight of orphans in Uganda.

“The number of orphans in Uganda continues to grow and it becomes hard for one organisation to manage. I appeal to other companies to come up and help us,” he said.

He said the money would be used to build more homes in addition to the present 99 in three villages.
