A JOINT helicopter raid backed by the 93rd Infantry Battalion on Wednesday pounded thew Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels at Kalawunya in Atanga sub-county, Pader district, killing eleven of them.
Four sub-machine guns and one anti-personnel mine gun were captured. Four captives were freed during the operation.

Second Lieutenant Chris Magezi, the 5th Division spokesman, said that in yet another operation, the UPDF’s 9th Infantry Battalion pursued a group of rebels along the River Pager towards its confluence with River Aswa. Two rebels were killed, he said.

“The army is registering positive offensive victories against the LRA in every encounter. We recovered an 81mm mortar gun complete with all its other components like the base plate and stand among others,” Magezi said.
He said another two rebels whom he did not identified reported to Aloi detachment in Moroto county, 20km east of Lira town with two sub- machine guns.

“We remain determined and focused. We shall hunt down all LRA ring-leaders like Odhiambo, Raska Lukwiya, Abudema and even Joseph Kony himself. We are monitoring the situation and our soldiers are intensifying pursuit in the field,” Magezi added.
