THE Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has secured Ajai Wildlife Reserve following a survey aimed at establishing borders to protected areas across the country. Dr. Arthur Mugisha, who heads UWA, said recently districts, communities and donors had helped in marking off boundaries of the parks to reduce encroachment.

Greens form national team
ENVIRONMENTALISTS have formed a national committee as they prepare for the global meeting on wetlands slated for next year. Paul Mafabi, the assistant commissioner in charge of wetlands inspection, said the permanent secretary for lands, Kabanda, heads the committee.

Wildlife society gets magazine
THE Uganda Wildlife Society (UWS) will soon publish a wildlife magazine to promote better use of nature and to improve the livelihood of communities. Jacob Manyindo, a senior UWS researcher, said recently the magazine, Nature Watch, would replace the monthly insertion in The New Vision. He said the quarterly magazine would cover advocacy issues in the country.

Delegates envy Kenyan energy
THE National Association of Professional Environmentalists delegates who visited Kenya’s geothermal projects, were impressed, the president, Frank Mulamuzi, said recently. He said his organisation would carry out surveys in western Uganda, a region said to have potential to support geothermal projects. Geothermal energy refers to heat generated by natural processes within the earth, like magma.
