CABINET has established a Special Presidential Committee chaired by the Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, to mobilise resources to address the humanitarian situation in Acholi, Lango and Teso.
State minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mondo Kagonyera, told parliament the committee would spearhead initiatives to solve the situation in the north.
Kagonyera was presenting a ministerial statement as a cabinet response to the parliamentary resolution passed on February 24, declaring the war-torn north a disaster area.
Kagonyera said President Yoweri Museveni and cabinet considered that declaring a disaster area would not enhance foreign assistance.
