THE Norwegian government has signed an agreement with the Uganda Heritage Roots (UHR) to provide sh250m to promote the Ugandan culture and help needy children.

UHR, a non-profit organisation, will use part of the money to rehabilitate former street children.
The agreement was signed by Norwegian Ambassador Tore Gjos at the embassy yesterday.
The UHR director, Milton Wabyona, represented UHR.

The support will run until April 2006 and is an addition to the sh70m that UHR received from the embassy recently.

UHR also deals in Ugandan cultural training and documentation. It uses music, dance and drama to rehabilitate unfortunate children such as orphans and former street children.

Gjos said the support would provide cultural training to Ugandans and tourists.
“This contract is part of the development co-operation between Uganda and Norway,” he said.
