A Total of 237 disadvantaged children in Kampala Central division on Thursday received bursaries to enable them attain primary and secondary education.

The LC3 chairman, Charles Sserunjogi, handed over cheques worth sh17.1m to the children at Bat Valley Primary School.
This is the third time the division is giving out bursaries to children from poor families.

He said the bursaries are raised out of the sh1,000 education tax residents pay to Kampala City Council.

“It is our responsibility to educate our children. As a council, sometimes we come out to support residents even when their children attend UPE schools because some parents cannot provide necessities like food and books,” he said.

The selection of the children was done by area councillors.
