FIVE people from Pabbo internally displaced persons’ (IDP) camp were on Wednesday admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, Pabbo branch, in critical condition following a cholera outbreak.
Pabbo LC3 chairperson Christopher Ojera said, “We started identifying a strange disease that caused the victims to vomit and have diarrhoea on October 11.”
A team of medical personnel headed by Dr. Yote from Lacor visited the camp and confirmed the outbreak of the epidemic.
Yote said the first three cases were reported on Monday and two others on Tuesday night.
Lacor Hospital has opened a ward at Pabbo, where suspected cases will be quarantined.
The district director of health services, Dr. Paul Onek, said they had dispersed a medical team to the camp with drugs to contain the situation.
“We are set to travel to Pabbo camp with another team of doctors to help the victims,” he said.
Ojera said if not handled properly, the epidemic could affect the entire camp, which has about 50,000 people.
