MARUTI Cricket Club has been declared winner of the weekend tie against Tornado B, which almost ended in chaos at Kyambogo on Sunday.

The games committee sitting at the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) offices on Monday ruled that second placed Maruti were winners of the game by four runs. The committee is entrusted with the general running of the national league.

However Tornado B has appealed the decision, arguing that the match officials had erred in calculating the revised target after rain had interrupted the game during Maruti’s innings put in to bat first.

But Maruti boss Jagdesh “Kakooza” Thakkar says the appeal will not reverse anything because always the umpire’s decision is final.

“Even if the umpire gave you out lbw by mistake that decision will never be reversed,” Thakkar argues, adding that they went ahead to plan their game according to the umpire’s decision.

Controversy surrounded the game after the umpire stopped play with just one over of the game to go and three minutes of scheduled play still at stake.

By the time, Tornado B were eight runs short of their winning target with one wicket at hand.

A heavy downpour had earlier interrupted the game just before lunch with Maruti at 157-6 in 40 overs.

At the resumption of play the figure was revised to 167 for Tornado B to chase in 35 overs.
