UGANDA’S chances of participating in the inaugural Islamic Games have been boosted by an offer of four tickets by the organisers.

UGANDA’S chances of participating in the inaugural Islamic Games have been boosted by an offer of four tickets by the organisers. The games are due in Saudi Arabia in April 2005. Coordinator Salim Musoke, who hailed the gesture said that the offer had been made in order to have more countries at the games that have subscribed to the Islamic League.

Juniors win
JANET Namutebi beat fellow national Jawara Namubiru 6-2, 6-2 in the U-18 category in the week-long Coast Open tennis championships. Lydia Ndagire also won her game, beating Kenya’s Shufaa Changawa 6-4, 6-0. Namutebi is sponsored by Rio Insurance.

Uganda lucky
UGANDA Volleyball Federation (UVF) officials feel Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has handed them a fair draw for the FIVB Japan 2005 World qualifying campaign. Uganda has been drawn together with Ghana, Eritrea and Sudan in the men’s group 5. Ghana and Uganda are the two favourites to qualify in the group.

Nyali Open
CHARLES Yokwe returns to Kenya hoping to salvage Uganda’s reputation when he features in the Nyali Open golf championships in Mombasa, December 18-19. Yokwe is the only Uganda flag bearer at the annual event. Other players including Deo Akope have skipped the event to concentrate on the Inter-regional championships.
