THE National Planning Authority (NPA) is seeking funds to establish structures for the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) initiatives.
NPA executive director Saul Kaye on Tuesday said the authority had established adequate human resources and needed funds to establish core institutional structures for taking forward the NEPAD and Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) initiatives.
Kaye was opening a sensitisation workshop on NEPAD and APRM in Uganda for ministries and agencies at Hotel Africana.
NEPAD is a common vision by African heads of state and Government to rebuild the continent and deepen regional integration.
Economic adviser of the UN development agency here Alexander Aboagye said the agency would champion the mobilisation of resources from donors as long as there were established frameworks by the NPA.
Dr. Geoffrey Bahiigwa, a senior research officer at the Economic Policy Research Centre, said national ownership and leadership by the participating countries were essential for the effectiveness of the APRM.
He said APRM and NEPAD activities must be catered for in the next financial year’s national budget.
