By Allan Turyaguma The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, has warned the police against immorality in order to avoid contracting the deadly HIV/AIDS disease. “AIDS is real and deadly and I appeal to all of you to lead responsible lives so as not to get it. If by bad luck you already have it, please limit it to yourself,” he said. Katumba was on Friday addressing police officers and constables at Mbarara police station. He said, “Please think about your wives and children, those three or so minutes you call enjoyment may strike a difference between life and death.” Katumba said over the years the police force had lost many good officers because of the Aids scourge. He said people should not look at condoms as a lasting solution to the problem. “Forget about the flavoured condoms and the rest, they are not a hundred percent safe and besides, how many people will think of the condom after taking three bottles of beer?” Katumba asked. He is on routine inspection of police stations countrywide. he has also visited Kanungu and Rukungiri districts in the western region. In a memorandum, which the Mbarara police gave him, they said they were facing an acute housing problem.
