UGANDAN born Italian, Yawe Davis, will defend his European light heavyweight title against France’s Kamel Amrane on January 26 in Aulla, Italy.

BY PHILLIP CORRYUGANDAN born Italian, Yawe Davis, will defend his European light heavyweight title against France’s Kamel Amrane on January 26 in Aulla, Italy.The 39-year-old Davis recently lost a World Boxing Council (WBC) eliminator to top British contender Clinton Woods, who will later this year fight WBC, IBF and WBA light heavyweight champion Roy Jones junior.Amrane comes from a successful defence of his French title against Joe Siluvangi last year.Davis has a record of 44 wins, 10 loses, 3 draws and 25 knockouts. While the 6 foot 2 inch Amrane has 19 wins, 2 loses, 1 draw and 11 within the distance.A couple of other Ugandans professional boxers will also start their seasons early.The US-based Kassim “The Dream” Ouma fights on February 15 in Philadelphia, with an opponent yet to be announced.Australian-based Sande Muhammad Kizito fights Nathan Sting in Brisbane, on February 7.Other Ugandan fighters who will be in the thick of things are Justin Juuko, Joseph “The African Express” Kiwanuka, Franco “The Black Scorpion” Ogentho, Kassim Adam Napa, Jackson Asiku, Robert Kamya, Paul Mpendo, Wycliff Katimbo and Peter Okello.
