Simba takes CECAFA title

TANZANIA champions Simba added the Kagame Cup to their silverware collection after edging Prince Louis 1-0 in the final played Sunday night at Amaan Stadium.

Kenyan striker Mark Sirengo was the pivotal man in the move that gave Simba the vital goal.Sirengo, signed last week from Mumias, snatched the ball from dreadlocked Furaha Mwembo and lifted it into the box for Nteze to smash into the net.In addition to the trophy, Simba walked away $30,000(sh51m) richer in prize money.Prince Louis picked up $20,000(sh34m) while third-placed Mlandege of Zanzibar were rewarded with $10,000(sh17m). The prize money was donated by Rwanda President Major General Paul Kagame in addition to the winner’s trophy worth $5,000(sh8m).In the Villa camp, attention has now shifted to this weekend’s Africa Champions League clash with El-Merriekh in Khartoum. Villa coaches - Moses Basena and Micho Sredojevich were by last evening already on the drawing board to lay strategies for the Sudan encounter.The Villa contingent returns home this afternoon. The players will have only a day’s rest before proceeding to Khartoum tomorrow.Villa, currently ravaged by injury, is expected to recall key defender Timothy Batabaire and make several changes to their line-up to face the Sudanese.ends
