DAVID Waweru is set to defend his TOTAL Invitational Corporate golf tournament title today.

By Douglas Mazune and William MuwongeDAVID Waweru is set to defend his TOTAL Invitational Corporate golf tournament title today.Waweru, who beat off a stiff challenge to win last year’s edition, is undoubtedly among the hot favourites in the competition that will take place at the par-72 Kitante course. Waweru, who has been practicing on the more challenging Muthaiga golf course in Kenya, is itching to swing into action.“I have not been playing here lately, but I did some practice in Kenya. My swing is fine. It is an interesting competition, I will be there to defend my title,” a confident Waweru said, adding: “I hope to do well.”Waweru, New Vision’s sales and marketing manager, will need to work extra hard to contain Solomon Kego and Sam Zaramba.The women’s title holder Monica Ntege will face off with veteran Alice Kego among others.TOTAL managing director Guichard Arnaud will tee off the tournament that has attracted 60 players from leading companies in Uganda. Tee off is at 8.00am. r JENNIFER Opio is expected to defend her Women’s Day Open title against 110 other players tomorrow. Opio, a Kampala player, and her rivals will be in action at the Kitante course. The medal event is held as part of activities to mark the International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8. Opio won the event last year at 69 nett after a serious challenge from Jolly Karemera who was one stroke behind. Mary Zaramba was two strokes away at 71.r UGANDA Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) has dropped veteran Alice Kego from the All Africa Ladies Challenge trials.Kego, who ruled the sport for the last two decades, was among the three players axed in the ongoing trials in Kampala.Maria Difonzo and Gertrude Acato were also dropped.ends
