SIR— The decision to introduce sex education in primary schools irks me. Sex education in primary schools has little to do with educating children. Giving young children the language and knowledge of sex, we do more than destroy their innocence. We introduce concepts outside their immature understanding.I have no doubt that the people involved in this programme were well intentioned and committed to their cause. But they have lost sight of what is important.Children have an innate sense of modesty, justice and what is right. Children instinctively understand the parameters and it is grossly irresponsible for educators to impose this teacher-knows-best philosophy. I do not subscribe to the view that there should be no sex education in schools. But there is a time and a place for such information, and primary school is not it.Steven SiimaVictoria Nile Primary School, Jinja
