THE newly sworn in Jinja district chairman, Fred Gume, has cautioned his councillors against involving themselves in contracts and tenders for government programmes in the district, reports Jonathan Angura. In his maiden speech after swearing in together with his councillors on Thursday at the Bugembe district headquarters, Gume advised his council to avoid interfering with the work of the civil servants. He said the council had the responsibility of monitoring and ensuring success in government and donor development programmes in the district. He advised them to avoid shoddy work done by tenderers and contractors under those programmes, saying councillors should never be engaged in the process. Gume also warned that headteachers whose schools do not perform well academically would lose their jobs.He said his council would develop academic impatience and reject headteachers whose schools failed academically yet government was providing scholastic materials and salaries for teachers.Ends
