VETERAN sports coach Mansoor Esmail has said the national boxing team is worth at least two medals.

By James BakamaVETERAN sports coach Mansoor Esmail has said the national boxing team is worth at least two medals.“Do not be surprised if the Bombers are again our saviours,” said Mansoor of the Manchester Commonwealth Games bound team that was due to depart for England yesterday.Mansoor, who over the past week has been fine-tuning the fighters at Lugogo, hosted the boxing team to a luncheon at City Bar on Thursday.Mansoor however warned the boxers. “Success will depend on whether you are focussed”.Martin Mubiru (fly), Dennis Mwanje (feather), Muhammad Kayongo (light welter) and Joseph Lubega (light heavy) will form Uganda’s team with Dick Katende as coach and Vincent Byarugaba as team manager.Table tennis, shooting, swimming, weightlifting and athletics are the other disciplines that will represent Uganda. The entire contingent led by education and sports state minister Henry Okello Oryem was on Wednesday hosted by President Yoweri Museveni.Olympic and world 400 meter medallist Davis Kamoga and Julius Acon are some of the sportsmen Mansoor has helped.Uganda could only manage one medal — a bronze from boxer Jackson Asiku from the last quadrennial games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
