WAKISO district is to pass a bye-law regulating all institutions and organisation from admitting children and adults who are not immunised.

By Catherine NtabaddeWAKISO district is to pass a bye-law regulating all institutions and organisation from admitting children and adults who are not immunised.Anybody who fails to comply with the new regulation will face legal action, the district secretary for health, Beatrice Mukasa, said this recently. “Every institution or organisation taking or admitting any child for regular instructions shall first establish the immunisation status of that individual,” Mukasa said.The bye-law, which is part of the district’s draft bill on immunisation, is yet to be passed by the district council. Mukasa, while speaking at a council meeting said the bill is aimed at improving the immunisation coverage in the area.“Wakiso district has continued to register a low immunisation coverage as per 2000/2001. The situations call for a vigorous action,” he said.Mukasa said under the bill, all residents will be required to be immunised. Ends
