WORLD Vision, a community development NGO, has injected $20,000 (sh36m) in the training and launching of Radio and Internet communication (RANET).
The main aim is to enable rural farmers to down load agricultural information from the space satellite in order to improve on their production systems.
At a workshop held at Nsambya on Tuesday, the commissioner of metrology S. Magezi said, “RANET will help the farmers get any relevant information from the World space radio,”
He said by the end of this year, they will have received 30 world space radios in 30 districts, helping farmers to access this information.
“These World Space radios do function like the Internet especially if there is any information pone needs it is as easy as going to down load,” he said.
The member of the global team of metrology experts Patrick Luganda said this initiative will help the end users get the right information at the right time.
“This will increase farmers products and their managing and farming systems. Environmental and market development systems will be also available,” he said.
Patrick also added by this provision unlike previously when the channels were developed in Europe but unfortunately are revived.
“We should understand rural livelihood especially these farmers up to down to road instead of relying on assumptions,” Luganda said.
He added that the low investments in the rural areas are as a result of some irresponsible men who misuse the little funds they reap from the small-scale agriculture.
“The communities we are staying in have not transformed into income generation especially the youth who finish 12 hours discussing undeveloping ideas,” he said.
The Soroti Agricultural Officer, Obore Obanya who happens one of the participants in the workshop said, “The flow of information in the development process has been locked therefore not channeled to the end users but with this initiative the issues will be tackled up to the grass roots,”
He added that some of the farmers have never understood any meteorological information, hence this will help the agricultural growth. Ends
