Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) workers remain optimistic about their future salary prospects, following assurances by their Commissioner General, Annebrit Aslund.
During a recent staff party to celebrate their 11th anniversary, she said donors were taking a serious interest in the organisation’s performance and welfare.
“Donors will never assist in respect of remuneration, but they can assist in other areas making it possible to create some space for improvement in staff welfare,” Aslund said.
She added, “They (donors) are also asking some pertinent questions like, why is URA not properly facilitated considering its importance to the nation.”
Aslund told about 2000 staff and guests at Didi’s World, she has had discussions with donors who expressed willingness to provide further funding for URA under the DFID project, which will start soon.
Aslund, who joined URA after a successful career with Pricewaterhouse Coopers, said their anti-corruption strategy is to work towards zero tolerance.
“We have made a good start at the Commission of Inquiry who should be finishing their work in another month or so. However, they have expressed disappointment that the information does not come in the way they had hoped,” she said.Ends
