HANDICAP 20 golfer Edwin Tumusiime carded 136 nett to win the Mbarara Open, his first major since taking up the game in 1999.
“It is a good feeling that a home player has won the event,” Tumusiime said.
The 27-year-old becomes the fifth local winner of the Nile Bank sponsored event launched in 1994. The champion’s brother Martin Tumusiime emerged champion in 1998.
Medadi Muhangi and Emmy Mbabazi from Kabale at 137 nett also won awards.
The lady’s title went to John Kobusingye from Fort Portal at 153 nett beating Kampala’s Ruth Okwele on count-back.
A. Kluge also from Fort Portal was third at 155 nett in the 36-hole event event that was nearly marred by rain yesterday.
