The State will call some soldiers currently engaged in operation iron fist against Kony rebels to testify in the Monitor helicopter case.

State attorney Jane Kajuga told the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate, Frank Othembi, that the soldiers were yet to be contacted for statements.

She said the State needed sometime because the soldiers were currently in the field.

But the lawyer for the Monitor, James Nangwala, asked the state to “reconsider pressing the charges” against the Monitor, saying it was in the interest of national security.

But Othembi advised him to write to the Director of Public prosecution (DPP) if he feels that the State should reconsider pressing charges. Othembi said it was the DPP’s discretion to drop cases.

Charles Onyango Obbo, the managing editor, Wanyama Wangah, news editor and a reporter, Frank Nyakairu, are charged with publishing information, prejudicial to national security, likely to assist the enemy in its operation.

They were also charged with publishing false news.
