I think the committee had a point. It is simply not fair to other women that Lubega, already a wife of a chairman of the powerful Education Service Commission should also be appointed a commissioner. There are some other Muslim women out there who have shown competence in the administration of public affairs who can be appointed.
Through experience, we have all come to know that being appointed into some of these positions has more to do with sharing the “national cake” than even real competence. Some other woman out there whose family and relatives are in need should also be given a chance. And, if I understood the committee well, the concerns of the parliamentary appointments committee are not really personal but out of a need for the fair distribution of national resources to as many Ugandans as possible.
