The long awaited Boeing 737-200 for East African Airlines, finally arrived in the country yesterday morning.
It touched down at Entebbe International Airport at exactly 9:45am amidst wild ululation and cheering from company staff and Civil Aviation Authorities personnel.
Benedict Mutyaba, the EAA’s Chief Executive could not hide his excitement, and rushed to enter the milk-white coloured plane as soon as it’s doors were opened.
“Today am very excited. We’ve been waiting for the bird and it’s finally here. Our girls and boys are very ready to work. We believe we have had a good start and our objective is to make Entebbe a hub,” Mutyaba said.
He was closely followed into the Boeing by fellow directors and staff who even beat the Entebbe Handling Services staff who normally handle arrivals.
The 95 seater named ‘Mgahinga,’ was piloted from North Carolina, USA, by Flight Captains Earnest Enabu and Peter Mapunda who took 26 hours to reach Entebbe.
The plane was first registered in 1986 with the US’s second largest carrier United Airlines.
“We want to be the best airline, with first class service on the African Continent. We are not scared of competition,” said a confident Mutyaba.
The $5m plane will officially be flown with a joy-ride to Nairobi on Monday.
