Last week was a bad one for mayor John Ssebaana Kizito. Even before the dust had settled on the controversy surrounding the award of the lucrative St Balikuddembe and Nakasero markets, the city’s nine MPs snubbed the International AIDS Day function event.

Sebaana said he was disappointed that the MPs had for the forth time evaded the function, meant to show solidarity with the victims, a big number of whom are city residents.

“They are the leaders and they always go every where, they should come here and we fight AIDS together,” Sebaana said at Nsambya playground on Saturday.

On the theme: “Fight Stigma, Reach out to Positive People,” Sebaana particularly urged employers to stop discriminating or mistreating employees infected with AIDS.

He said the City Council’s seven employees had died recently of AIDS. Ssebaana said KCC spent a lot of money on treating them. He blamed firms which feared to employ people living with AIDS.
