THE Bugisu district Kadhi, Sheikh Issa Masaba Pole, has reminded Muslim women to have limits when seeking equal opportunities in the society.

Masaba said Islam was not opposed to the basic rights of women.

He said such rights were recognised and granted to the Muslim women long before the human rights bodies started echoing the same sentiments.

“You should have a limit when making such demands because you have the cardinal role of bringing up children, particularly the younger ones,” Masaba said.

He was preaching last week during Idi El-Fitri prayers held at Masjid Raudha Mosque near Umar and Yumbe Primary School in Mbale town.

Masaba said some Muslim women abandoned their homes and children to houseboys and baby sitters who at times abused the children or failed to provide for them.

“It is for this reason that we in Islam say that much as you demand for your rights, you should know that you have a limit and a role to play in society,” he said.

Masaba also announced that a census for all the Muslims in Mbale and Sironko districts would soon be carried out.

He also appealed to Muslims to pray for the UPDF soldiers and the civilian community in northern Uganda where there is rebel activity.
