British American Tobacco Uganda BAT(U) has donated 200 blankets and 200 jerricans worth sh2m to the displaced people of the north, reports Edith Kimuli.

The items were handed over to the state minister for sports, Okello Oryem, at BAT’s office in Industrial Area, Kampala on Friday.

BAT’s finance manager Ashat Saleem said his company was contributing to reduce the suffering of the displaced people. Oryem said, “the contribution will go a long way in saving people’s lives in northern Uganda.”

He said Kony’s rebels had been defeated, with some remnants in the area. He, however, said the civilians were still suffering and needed help.

“They do not even have a cup to fetch water at boreholes or wells. These items will save 200 lives. We loose about the same number everyday,” Oryem said.
