By James Bakama and Fred KatereggaUGANDA could finally be on course of ridding herself of soccer hooliganism.This follows efforts by Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) technical director Guenter Zittel to invite renown soccer violence expert Dr. Guenter Pilz.Zittel said yesterday that Pilz, an active professor in Germany, will conduct a May 1 - 4 seminar in Kampala.Pilz’s works include seminars for the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).Zittel said the sh10m seminar is jointly funded by the German-Uganda Football Development under GTZ and German foreign ministry.“There is need to educate all the relevant people about ways of stopping soccer violence,” said Zittel citing stadium management, club officials, security, referees and fans as the main targets.Other projects initiated by Zittel include last year’s course for goalkeepers and goalkeeper trainers and the national coaches seminar.Meanwhile, Zittel plans to start U-13 and U-15 leagues with Kampala Kids League (KKL) commissioner Trevor Dudley.r Uganda’s U-20 Africa championship preparations resumed yesterday after a week’s break. FUFA called off preparations due to a busy schedule. The bulk of the squad was engaged in the league, Hedex Cup and CECAFA Club Championship. Uganda starts off the competition in April against Sudan. The winner will in August face Egypt before yet another round to determine the zonal qualifier to the continental finals.FUFA vice chairman (technical) John Ssemanobe said the delay is a big blow especially to upcountry players. He however promised that preparations will continue.The teenagers, coached by Barnabas Mwesiga and Timothy Ayiekho, have for three weeks been training at Lugogo.Uganda’s U-20 preliminary leg in Khartoum will the same month be followed by the U-17 African qualifiers where Uganda will start off against Somalia.The month of August will have the CECAFA U-19 Championship in Eritrea.The Nations Cup qualifiers, where Uganda is grouped with Rwanda and Ghana, start in September.ends
