Parents fight over school

A man and his wife flexed muscles at Bubaali village in Bunyole County, Tororo district on the change of school by their son. Their home located within the trading centre, drew a crowd of onlookers, who gathered to have a view of Canaan Higenyi and Nakinghondo battle to settle domestic wrangles under the scorching sun.The residents were celebrating the coming of services nearer to their children. The district education officer granted permission to start a primary school in the trading centre.Children in Bubaali village had to move about three kilometres in any direction to the nearest school. Also due to universal primary education, the new school will reduce the number of pupils in each class in the nearby schools by 50% . The new school, presupposed to be called Bubaali Primary school, registered a good turn up of pupils at the start of the term. The pupils trickled to the school in different uniforms as there was no formal one agreed upon. The couple’s son, Fwabi, also decided to join the other pupils to the new school. He was previously in P.4 at Busabi Primary School. They did not study, it being the first day. And when he returned home, Fwabi was severely beaten by his father (Higenyi) for not going to the original school.“Mr. Higenyi just grabbed the boy by the neck and threw him down, then started beating and kicking,” an eyewitness said.In retaliation, the wife (Nakinghondo) in a bid to rescue her son from further punishment got hold of her husbands leg and threw him down. Then fighting ensued. The match lasted about 20 minutes while onlookers who have a love for that kind of thing, were treated to some free entertainment. In a dramatic end, without the intervention of onlookers or local council officials, the man begged the wife to stop.ends
