MAJ Gen Francis Nyangweso is favoured to become the next Africa Boxing Confederation (ABC) president.

By James BakamaMAJ Gen Francis Nyangweso is favoured to become the next Africa Boxing Confederation (ABC) president.ABC sources have revealed that the Ugandan’s status as an International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) representative for Africa has advantaged him.The March elections on a date yet to be named in the Burkina Faso capital Ouagadougou will have the new executive serving for four years.The next ABC president will take over from Tunisia’s long serving Tayeb Houichi, who died recently.ABC rules require that the confederation’s head must be elected from its nine executive members.These executives are: president, secretary and seven vice chairmen, who double up as heads of the continent’s zones. Algeria’s Abdullah Bessalem is secretary.“That Nyangweso has been honourary ABC president is yet another plus,” said one of the ABC vice presidents David Agong.Nyangweso and Agong were Uganda’s choice for ABC’s top post and the Zone V chairmanship in nominations last year.ends
