Start Planting, Farmers Told

THE Commissioner for Agricultural Planning, Rhoda Tumusiime, has told farmers to start planting for the next season.

By Kikonyogo NgatyaTHE Commissioner for Agricultural Planning, Rhoda Tumusiime, has told farmers to start planting for the next season.Tumusiime said yesterday that weather experts had confirmed that the rain season has started.She said maize farmers should plant immediately.Tumusiime said other crops like sweet potatoes, beans and vegetables, farmers should wait for about five days for the soils to cool off from the dry season’s heat.Chebet Maikut, the president of Uganda National Farmers’ Federation cautioned farmers against the fake seeds and agro chemicals on the market.Bwango Apuuli, the commissioner for meteorology, said the rains are expected to have fully stabilised countrywide by early April.Ends
