The police and the army in Bundibugyo are investigating the theft 180 head of cattle from the DR Congo. Emmanuel Mulondo writes that a security source told The New Vision yesterday that the alleged theft took place on February 27. He said heavily armed thugs wearing army uniform entered Uganda with the cattle through Rwebisengo in Ntoroko county. The source said at least 100 head of the stolen cattle had been recovered and returned to the owners in DR Congo. One suspect had been arrested with three of the stolen cows last week but a mob attacked the Police and prevented his arrest. The mob also wanted to lynch the policemen who fought back. One person was shot by the Police in self-defence. A Police official declined to give the details, saying the district Police chief and the Regional CID Officer were in better position to comment.
