NGO Advises On Polls

THE Police, Electoral Commission (EC) and other state agencies should not issue laws contrary to the electoral laws during elections, a local NGO has said.

By Joyce NamutebiTHE Police, Electoral Commission (EC) and other state agencies should not issue laws contrary to the electoral laws during elections, a local NGO has said.THE Universal Bureau for Family Counselling Ltd (UNIBUREAU) made the recommendation in a statement issued recently. New regulations issued during elections confuse the electorate, the statement signed by Director Operations, Robert Sseggonja, said.UNIBUREAU was accredited by the EC to conduct civic education and election monitoring in the last local government elections. It said civic education exercise should be carried out before the candidates’ nominations and campaigns so that the electorate get to know their civic rights and duties.It urged the Government to provide the EC with all electoral materials so that they are delivered to polling stations in time.Ends
