PATRICK Kabuye, a Ugandan based in the US, has disproved the belief that Uganda lacks international class coaches.

By James BakamaPATRICK Kabuye, a Ugandan based in the US, has disproved the belief that Uganda lacks international class coaches.Kabuye was recently re-appointed on USA’s national U-17 coaching staff.Kabuye, head coach of New Mexico’s Olympic Development Program, is together with colleagues from 12 other states required to name USA’s squad for the Athens 2004 Olympics.“It’s great. I will definitely give my best again,” said a thrilled Kabuye from the US.Kabuye, a former KCC, U-19 and U-23 defender, is also pursuing Kinesiology (study of body in motion) masters degree at the University of El Paso, Texas.He was first given a coaching assignment in the United States three years ago in the build up to Sydney Olympics .Kabuye, holder of the top US soccer coaching qualification, recently further enriched his CV with a youth coaching license.Kabuye’s next target is a UEFA ‘A’ coaching license for which he has already enrolled for in Wales.Success for Kabuye in this course in July will make him one of the most highly qualified coaches in the US.“With this paper I will be able to handle any professional soccer team in the world.”Kabuye’s other duties include a teaching assistant’s job at his university. He also handles an U-11 side in Las Cruces, New Mexico.Before focussing on coaching, Kabuye played for the El Paso Patriots in the US A-League.He is also interested in extending his knowledge home. “Youth and coaches could benefit a lot from my training.”ends
