Garbage collection in Mbale Municipality, which was to cost the council over sh100m, has been removed free of charge by residents.

By Nasur Wambedde Garbage collection in Mbale Municipality, which was to cost the council over sh100m, has been removed free of charge by residents. The group called “keep Mbale clean voluntary group” led by the mayor, Richard Masaba, has been collecting garbage and opening up damaged tunnels in different parts of the town for the past two weeks.Masaba told the New Vision recently that some of the garbage had piled for five years.He said in several residential houses, drainage systems had been blocked and dirty water remained stagnant until the voluntary group cleaned such places, which he said were breeding places for mosquitoes and other vermin.
