A FIVE-MAN delegation of Botswana members of parliament here to learn from the Ugandan experience of dealing with AIDS, has blamed the scourge on bad customs in some parts of Africa, reports Cyprian Musoke. The visiting team, headed by Jameson Mothrbamele, who is the chairman of the HIV/AIDS committee of the Botswana parliament, yesterday called on the Parliament Speaker, Edward Ssekandi, and later the social services committee.Speaking to social services committee chairperson, Dorothy Hyuha the MPs said AIDS should not be blamed on poverty but on bad culture.“In our culture, if a man dies, the woman can be inherited by the brother. Because of lack of awareness, such traditional practices help the fast spread of the disease,” Robert Molefhabagwe said.He praised Uganda for the success in the AIDS battle.Other members of the delegation are Duke Lefhoko, Rakwadi Modipane and Keabe Tshukude.Ends
