The Jinja district entomology officer, Gilbert Bayenda has blamed the increasing cases of malaria on the presence of Lake Victoria and River Nile that surround the town, reports Charles Kakamwa. He said the water bodies were potential breeding places for mosquitoes, which cause malaria. He was presenting a paper at a workshop on the prevention and control of malaria at Jinja town hall last week. He, however, noted that the features were important for the environment and should be protected. He urged participants to practice biological malaria control measures instead of draining swamps, saying it led to environment degradation. He also blamed the Bujagali dam construction project for failure to fill ditches they dig when excavating soil. Ends
