Security Hunts Luweero Robbers

GOVERNMENT is hunting for a group of eight robbers connected to insecurity in Luweero, the Minister of State for Defence, Ruth Nankabirwa, said yesterday.

She said the special committee comprises of officials from Police, Defence, Internal Security Organisation (ISO) and the External Security Organisation (ESO).Nankabirwa was responding to concerns raised by Victoria Nakiboneka Mwaka (Woman, Luweero) during debate on the budget.Mwaka said there was insecurity in Luweero.“We are told these are thugs but the people of Luweero are very scared about Itongwa,” she said.She said the LC3 Chairman for Semuto had appealed to the Government to protect the people. “What do we do?” she asked.Nankabirwa replied that she sympathised with the people of Luweero. She said the situation was partly a spill-over of what happened in Kampala.“We are following a group of eight men seriously,” she said.Michael Ocula (Kilak) appealed to the Government to ensure that peace prevails in the north. He said it was difficult to implement some of the government programmes where there is insecurity.Ends
