Masaka Town Clerk Lawrence Bagerize has interdicted his assistant, Charles Kateregga Mulumba, for allegedly extorting sh4m from a contractor

Masaka Town Clerk Lawrence Bagerize has interdicted his assistant, Charles Kateregga Mulumba, for allegedly extorting sh4m from a contractor, reports Eddie Ssejjoba. The move was taken after Paul Ddibya of Trinity Holdings Ltd, who was contracted at sh23m to build a water-borne toilet in Masaka Recreation Ground, complained to Bagerize that Mulumba had allegedly demanded for sh4m from him.In a June 27 letter to Kateregga, Bagerize said he had interdicted Mulumba with immediate effect and told him to hand over office to Richard Mulumba. “I have interdicted you as a preliminary disciplinary measure so as to allow for the investigations to establish the offences,” the Town Clerk’s letter read. He was also told to make a defence within 14 days to enable submissions to the District Service Commission. The new office bearer took over office on July 1. Bagerize said the interdiction was in effect to a letter dated June 24 by Paul Ddibya copied to relevant authorities pinning Mulumba for extorting sh4m from him which resulted into doing substandard work. The town council team recently inspected the playground toilet and found it was substandard.
